Question
How is Spotapup different than the other pet-finding sites and services?
Answer
Spotapup is the only site available that not only tells you which breeds and individual dogs best match your personality and lifestyle, but it also tells you where you can adopt the dogs that match you. It’s also a tool that matches you with the right dog before you make the trip to shelters.
Question
Why does Spotapup only show adoptable dog results from rescues and shelters and not pet stores or breeders?
Answer
We at Spotapup are strong believers in making the world a better place for pets. According to statistics gathered from The Humane Society of the United States, roughly 4 million pets are euthanized every single year at kill shelters in this country. And it’s estimated that more than 99% of the pets sold at pet stores are the products of “puppy mills,” or commercial breeding facilities. For more information on puppy mills, please visit http://www.stoppuppymills.org. There’s no reason we should be buying over-priced pets at pet stores while millions perish in shelters. While many breeders are responsible, many aren’t, and we don’t want to take that risk. It’s also common at animal shelters to find at least a third of their dogs are purebred, and many more are “designer dogs.” So, with all of the cruel practices going on at breeding facilities run by unscrupulous breeders, we at Spotapup want to help in the fight to shut down puppy mills while getting all of the adoptable dogs out there the wonderful homes they deserve.
Question
When I click on “Find a dog,” two columns come up, but I don’t know what’s the difference between them. What’s the difference between “dogs that match you,” and “breeds that match you?”
Answer
The column that says “dogs that match you,” is a list of dogs that are actually up for adoption, based on the traits you selected. The “breeds that match you” column shows you all the breeds that match the traits you selected. So the breeds column just gives you an idea for what breeds, out of all the recognized breeds out there, best fit your lifestyle. The “breeds” column, when you click on the pictures, also tells you more about those specific breeds. The “dogs” column, when you click on the pictures, tells you more about the specific dog that’s up for adoption.
Question
Why isn’t the “dogs” column returning results, but the “breeds” column is?
Answer
If the “dogs” column doesn’t return results, it means no shelters have entered dogs with your selected criteria. The “breeds” column will always return results because those are just examples of breeds that fit your criteria.
Question
How can I get a list of all the dogs up for adoption?
Answer
Leave all fields blank, including “select state,” and click on “Find a Dog.” That will return all of the dogs that shelters and rescues have registered with Spotapup.
Question
What if I’m looking for a mixed breed or what if adoptable dogs that come up are mixed breeds? How will I know what I’m really getting if I decide to adopt a dog based on the description found on Spotapup?
Answer
You should always try to spend some time with a dog before making the commitment to adopt. Spotapup helps because shelters and rescues enter the characteristics of the dog. But you can get a pretty good idea for what any particular breed is like by checking out the “breeds” page.
